The real Valentine had nothing to do with hearts or love. He was actually a Christian in the Roman times St. Valentine persecuted by the Roman Emperor Claudios II, he ordered his men to remain single in the army believing that single men were better soldiers. Anyway St. Valentine had a conversation with Claudios II and wanted to convince the emperor to convert in Christianity because of this Claudios II was so angry he put him in jail. During his time in jail he performed a miracle about his jailer blind daughter and healed her. Before executing him he sent a card to the daughter of the jailer saying "From you Valentine" the first Valentine card. The Feb. 14 is just to commemorate the martyrs of Rome who were named Valentine.
