Why are Pencils Yellow

Why are most pencils colored yellow? Back in the 1800's that wasn't always the case. Their were variety of colors but when L&C Hardtmuth Company of Austria released the Koh-I-Noor this pencil was such high quality that others just wanted to follow. They painted it with golden yellow so it can have the colors of the Austro- Hungarian flag along with the black led.
